pick A time selects Resin as a cost-effective load balancing and redundancy solution
LA JOLLA, CA -- November 13, 2004 -- Caucho® Technology, Inc. announced today that pick A time.com has chosen the Resin IIS plug-in as a simple and effective method for load balancing.
pick A time is an online appointment service that allows vendors such as schools, corporations, health clinics, and auto shops to publish available time slots on their webpage so that students, parents, employees, patients, and customers are able to book appointments over the Internet.
Caucho® Technology produces Resin, a leading Java application server used by thousands of corporate, education and government clients. With customers that have large and demanding sites including CNet, EBay's half.com, Evite, salesforce.com and the American Red Cross, Resin delivers fast and stable performance under heavy load situations. Caucho® Technology is a Sun Microsystems J2EE licensee.
John Taves, co-Founder and President of pick A time says, "The pick A time service is hosted on Resin. We use IIS for http and https, so the Resin IIS plug-in intercepts requests for .jsp and servlets and sends them to the Resin runner. The plug-in uses a simple but effective method for doing load balancing. It prepends a letter to the jsession cookie and uses that letter to route the session to the correct Resin instance. This allows me to run N identical web servers where each are using Microsoft's Network Load Balancing so that they are all hanging onto www.pickatime.com, and each are running an instance of Resin. The end result is that we have an inexpensive load balancing and redundancy solution."
Steve Montal, Director of Sales and Strategic Partnerships of Caucho® Technology, Inc., said, "pick A time is a valuable service for educational institutions and corporations to book appointments using the Internet." Montal added, "We are delighted that pick A time chose Resin to host their applications based on performance, reliability and price."
With numerous added features, increased performance and load balancing, Caucho's Resin application server is experiencing rapid growth worldwide. Caucho® is active in web services and has support for Apache SOAP. Caucho® has also developed the Hessian binary protocol in an effort to produce fast solutions for the rapidly expanding web services arena.
