LA JOLLA, CA — March 14, 2008 – Caucho® Technology, Inc., a leading open source Java-PHP application server vendor, today announced that Emil Ong and his colleagues at Caucho® will present Quercus at the San Francisco Java Meetup on April 7 at 6:30pm.
Quercus is Caucho’s 100% Java implementation of the PHP language and libraries. Available for use with any application server, Quercus brings the vast code base of PHP applications and knowledge to the Java platform. Quercus is a high performance implementation of PHP that meets or exceeds the performance of the C PHP implementation with common PHP applications. Built upon a mixed interpreted/compiled implementation, long-running PHP scripts are compiled to Java bytecode for performance, while during development they are interpreted to avoid compilation overhead.
The hands-on presentation will include:
- Set up WordPress on Quercus
- Expose a Java objects and methods to PHP
- See how to use the power of Java sessions in PHP
The San Francisco Java Meetup, a relatively new group, is already becoming popular with Java programmers in the Bay Area. The meetup is hosted by Marakana, an IT training center with facilities that allow participants to engage with presentations in a hands-on way. Caucho’s presentation of Quercus take advantage of Marakana’s classroom setting to give attendees the chance to setup Quercus and install a popular PHP application, WordPress. The participants will see how to integrate their own Java and PHP code to give PHP access to the power of Java and to give Java the flexibility of PHP as a view technology.
Aleksandar Gargenta, a Partner at Marakana and host of the San Francisco Java Meetup, said, “Java professionals of the San Francisco Meetup group are excited to learn about Caucho’s Quercus technology that will bridge the PHP-Java divide and create interesting Java/PHP mesh-up possibilities!”
Steve Montal, CEO of Caucho® Technology, said “We are looking forward to presenting Quercus at the San Francisco Java Meetup. Our technology is something that both PHP and Java developers will greatly benefit from.” Montal continued, “The classroom setting of Marakana is a perfect environment to demonstrate how effectively PHP and Java can integrate using Quercus. Several of our lead engineers will be on site at this event.”
