LA JOLLA, CA — March 30, 2009 – Caucho® Technology, Inc., a leading open source Java-PHP application server vendor, today announced that the upcoming Resin 4.0 release will feature a distributed cache targeted at cloud computing environments.
Features of Resin 4.0 distributed cache include:
The design of the Resin 4.0 distributed cache employs an innovative approach that balances reliability and performance. Replication is a central part of the cache that ensures data is available and correct at all times. To make sure that data access is fast Resin 4.0 replicates the data where it will be used, thereby reducing network load. When cached data is used on multiple servers to maximize computational resources, the cache uses a sophisticated design that splits metadata from data to limit the amount of network traffic as well. Using Resin 4.0's advanced clustering features, the cache scales across dynamic servers that are started and stopped at will. Scott Ferguson, President of Caucho® Technology, said, "The distributed cache in Resin 4.0 is extremely robust and efficient by design. By replicating the data in triplicate, we maintain reliability without wasting memory or network resources." Ferguson continued, "We use an advanced mathematical indexing scheme and optimized network transfer protocols to make moving the data between servers highly efficient. However clients and developers don't have to learn any details about the architecture because we provide an interface via the standard JavaEE APIs." Emil Ong, Chief Evangelist of Caucho® Technology, said, "We designed the new distributed caching architecture with cloud computing environments as the target. Organzations are now using virtualization to reduce their administrative costs and downtime, so they need their application server to help them scale on these platforms." Ong added, "The distributed cache does just that by making scaling transparent to both the developer and clients. The only thing that will change is that now they get better performance from the same hardware." Caucho® products include the industry leading Resin application server, Hessian serialization protocol and Quercus Java-PHP solutions. All products are open source and used by thousands of commercial deployments including CNet and Salesforce. Quercus is Caucho® Technology's 100% Java implementation of PHP.
