LA JOLLA, CA — July 18, 2007 – Caucho® Technology, Inc., a leading open source Java-PHP application server vendor, today announced the release of Resin 3.1.2. This version of Resin increases reliability and add significant new features.
Resin 3.1.2 now includes an implementation of the Java Persistence API, which is a major feature of the Enterprise Java Beans 3.0 standard. New features have also been added to the Hessian 2.0 web services protocol that allow for better security and message compression. Resin’s JAX-WS support continues to improve with better support for WSDL handling and handler chains. Both Resin and the Quercus Java-PHP engine also underwent major reliability tests making them even more solid than before.
“Before JPA, developers had to choose from an array of non-standard, incompatible API’s to do object persistence. JPA standardizes this fundamental task and makes it easier for developers to get their applications written faster. Resin’s JPA implementation is efficient and reliable, so our customers can start using this exciting new standard right away,” said Emil Ong, Software Engineer at Caucho® Technology.
The web services support in Resin 3.1.2 continues to improve. The Hessian 2.0 protocol now includes support for security and compression envelopes. This feature will allow developers the ability to send secure messages end-to-end, routing through proxies with ease. Hessian is now a major competitor to SOAP, matching many of its features while being far more efficient to process and easier on network resources. JAX-WS support is also improved in Resin 3.1.2, with improved WSDL handling and handler chains.
Emil Ong observed, “Our customers already choose our products because of their reliability. With extensive load testing and bug fixes, Resin 3.1.2 is even more rock-solid than ever.” Ong continued, “Quercus, Caucho’s Java-PHP engine, also underwent major fixes to improve its compatibility with existing PHP applications and stability. Critical bug fixes and turnaround time are one of the most important aspects in choosing a web development platform. Our customers benefit from our quick release cycles and attention to their needs.”
Caucho® Technology products include Quercus, a pioneering open source architecture for web applications and services where Java and PHP are tightly integrated with each other. PHP applications can choose to use Java libraries and technologies like JMS, EJB, SOA frameworks, Hibernate, and Spring all within one application server. PHP applications running on Quercus are faster, easier to develop, more capable, more secure, and more scalable than any other PHP solution.
Hessian is Caucho® Technology’s fast, compact, and efficient web services and serialization protocol. Used for years in both production and development environments with implementations in several languages including Java, C#, Ruby, PHP, and Python, Hessian has proved itself to be a versatile and powerful alternative to other web services technologies including SOAP.
Caucho® Technology has earned a reputation for supporting its products by a team of engineers devoted to quality customer service and a rapid bug fix and feature request program. Caucho® has over 7,000 customers including CNet, Salesforce and KodakGallery whose mission critical applications rely on Resin application server.
