LA JOLLA, CA — November 28, 2007 – Caucho® Technology, Inc., a leading open source Java-PHP application server vendor, today announced that WebBeans (JSR-299 early draft) is fully integrated into Resin.

WebBeans is a new framework which was originally designed to simplify the configuration and deployment of EJB and JSF-based applications. Components are created and configured entirely within the WebBeans framework, then injected into applications using contract-based annotations. WebBeans takes care of finding appropriate resources for an application, including creating them if necessary.

Resin takes WebBeans a step further and applies its component creation to everything in the application server. Any resource
can now be used in any application. With Caucho’s independent implementation of the JSR-299 draft, this technology is now fully
integrated and compatible with Resin. All parts of Resin can take advantage of WebBeans, including Quercus, Caucho’s 100% Java
implementation of PHP, the renowned JSP engine, and now the highly optimized JSF implementation.

Scott Ferguson, President of Caucho® Technology said, “Caucho® taking WebBeans to its full potential. The idea on how to use this exciting new technology so far is great: bridging EJB and JSF component models. But we found it’s even more useful than that.” Ferguson continued, “Imagine being able to inject a component anywhere while also specifying how you want that component to behave. For example, you can inject a database connection into a JSP and require that it be transactional. Additionally, you can get a temporary JMS queue in a PHP script. It’s incredibly flexible.”

The Quercus/WebBeans integration syntax will be a simple PHP function: ‘$foo = webbeans(“foo”);’. The component named ‘foo’ will either be looked up if it’s a singleton or created if it’s a dependent object. It’s exactly as if it was ${foo} in JSP or JSF, i.e. the behavior is already defined by the spec.

“With our WebBeans integration, Resin effectively cuts out the middleman. This technology makes development and administration amazingly easy,” said Emil Ong, Chief Evangelist of Caucho® Technology. Ong continued, “In the past, it was possible to get a great application server, but you would then have to get a separate configuration engine because many of the built-in systems were so complicated. WebBeans is a wonderful configuration system and because we know what needs to be configured in Resin and how, we can custom tailor WebBeans to make it fully integrated in Resin. Full integration means more that just EJB and JSF. It means everything, including JAX-WS and even PHP. The days of developers doing manual lookups and managing namespaces is gone.”

Caucho® Technology products include Quercus, a pioneering open source architecture for web applications and services where Java
and PHP are tightly integrated with each other. PHP applications can choose to use Java libraries and technologies like JMS, EJB,
SOA frameworks, Hibernate, and Spring all within one application server. PHP applications running on Quercus are faster, easier
to develop, more capable, more secure, and more scalable than any other PHP solution.

Hessian is Caucho® Technology’s fast, compact, and efficient web services and serialization protocol. Used for years in both
production and development environments with implementations in several languages including Java, C#, Ruby, PHP, and Python,
Hessian has proved itself to be a versatile and powerful alternative to other web services technologies including SOAP.

Caucho® Technology has earned a reputation for supporting its products by a team of engineers devoted to quality customer service and a rapid bug fix and feature request program. Caucho® has over 7,500 customers whose mission critical applications rely on Resin application server.
