Events at a Glance for 2009
“Quercus provides the best of both worlds. We get to use PHP, one of the most popular web site building languages, for the front-end of our application and Java EE for the backend of our application. We could not have taken our application to the next level without it.”

Quercus session at JavaOne
Caucho® Engineer and Evangelist, Emil Ong, will speak about Quercus in a session at this year’s JavaOne.
The presentation entitled, ???How to Run PHP Faster by Using Java??? Technology,??? will focus on how Quercus achieves its incredible performance while running on the JVM. Emil will also discuss how PHP and Java are being used together by companies today, as well as new ways to integrate the two languages. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at 4:40 PM – 5:40 PM, at the Esplanade 301, Moscone Center. Read about Quercus.
Quercus PHP on Google App Engine demonstration at Google I/O Developer Conference
We are excited to have Caucho® engineers demonstrate Quercus PHP in Java implementation on Google App Engine (GAE) on May 27th. This one-on-one demo is part of Google???s Developer Sandbox. Caucho® engineers will demonstrate how to use and deploy Quercus applications and how to develop PHP pages that access Java objects. Quercus???s GAE support offers the ability for users to run PHP applications in this unique cloud framework. Users can now simplify the development process, put up PHP projects quickly and easily, and reap the benefits of the Google App Engine. More about Google I/O Developer Conference.
Resin 4.0 is now available for download
Our redesigned architecture, complete with performance enhancing features, is now ready to be put to the test. Resin 4.0 is a lean yet powerful enterprise-grade application server with an infrastructure to support Cloud Computing and small to large web application demands.
Major highlights of Resin 4.0:
Quercus on Google Engine App (GAE)
The addition of Java to Google App Engine means more apps, expanded capabilities and an open invite for a slew of languages implemented on the JVM. If you???re a PHP developer, Quercus is your answer. Quercus is blazingly fast PHP on the JVM. It is up to 2-8 times faster than traditional implementation of PHP. With our new GoogleQuercusServlet, you can get all the performance and compatibility enhancements of Quercus on GAE right at your fingertips. More about Quercus on GAE.
Using PHP as a Spring MVC view via Quercus
Quercus can now be used as a Spring MVC view. For Java MVC developers, this feature opens the door to integrating not only code, but also highly skilled PHP interface developers into the team. The easy-to-use integration allows direct use of Model values as PHP globals, often resulting in code that’s shorter than JSP. Quercus’s integrated Java support makes PHP an attractive alternative to other views. More about Spring MVC view with PHP.
Google I/O Developer Conference

Tip of the Month
Rewrite rules for WordPress
Resin 4.0 introduces a request rewriting mechanism that’s easier and clearer than before. This tip shows a quick example of how to convert an Apache mod_rewrite rule to Resin 4.0 for WordPress. Resin 4.0 continues to support the old 3.1 rewrite syntax for backwards compatibility, but the new framework is even more readable and provides an easy upgrade path for Apache users.
