LA JOLLA, CA October 23, 2009 Caucho® Technology, Inc., a leading open source Java EE application server vendor, announced today that Reza Rahman will present two sessions at TheServerSide Java Symposium, set to take place in Prague next week.

Rahman will present the following conference sessions:

  • EJB 3.1: A Preview
  • Integrating EJB 3 and Spring

TheServerSide Java European Symposium runs from October 27-28 and will host the most respected experts in Java with a focus on the frameworks, architectures, languages, tools and techniques for solving today’s development problems.

Rahman, a member of the Java EJB 3 and Java EE 6 expert groups, said “the two sessions I am presenting at TSSJS Europe this year are among my personal favorites and I am very glad to have a chance to share them with the strong European Java developer community.”

Rahman’s EJB 3.1 talk focuses on providing the community an early peek into the features included in highly-anticipated standard. Such features include optional interfaces, singleton beans with concurrency control, start-up/shutdown callbacks, annotation-driven cron-like scheduling, asynchronous processing support, and packaging EJBs in WAR files. The EJB 3.1 run-time support in Java SE environments includes unit tests, standardized JNDI naming as well as EJB Lite. EJB 3.1 is due to be finalized in the next couple of months along with Java EE 6. The Caucho® team is now very close to implementing EJB 3.1 Lite in Resin 4.0 along with many Java EE 6 Web Profile APIs such as JSR-299 (Java Contexts and Dependency Injections) and Servlet 3.0. The EJB 3.1 Lite standard and Resin’s upcoming implementation align well with Caucho’s solidly lightweight enterprise development philosophy.

The aim of the EJB 3/Spring integration talk is to demonstrate to developers how to mix and match freely between the EJB and Spring models to create compelling hybrid solutions leveraging the strengths of both technologies. Resin integrates well with the Spring framework, including leveraging Caucho® innovative Hessian remoting protocol. There has been increasing convergence of Java EE and the Spring framework via foundational APIs like JSR-330 (Dependency Injection for Java). As a Java technology leader, the Caucho® team continues to explore better ways of developing solid integration between EJB 3.1 Lite, Java EE 6, Resin CanDI (JSR-299) and the Spring framework.

Steve Montal, CEO and Co-Founder of Caucho® Technology, said “we think Sun and the JCP expert groups did an excellent job with the Java EE 6 Web Profile, JSR-330, JSR-299, Servlet 3.0 and EJB 3.1 Lite.” Montal added “Caucho® is focused and committed to the significant benefits to developers provided by the Java EE 6 Web Profile and the flexibility of a combined Java/PHP architecture pioneered by Quercus.”

Caucho® products include the industry leading Resin application server, Hessian serialization protocol and Quercus Java-PHP solutions. Quercus is Caucho® Technology’s 100% Java implementation of PHP that offers the ability to run a wide variety of PHP applications including WordPress and Drupal natively within a Java container. The result is that developers benefit from the flexibility of PHP combined with the security, reliability and business logic of Java. Quercus saves engineering time, improves performance and is an excellent cost-effective solution for Java and PHP sites.
