Hibernate is one of the finest pieces of open source software these
days.
Yes, Hibernate has too much magic, but that magic *really* enhances
you application. Plus it's very natural to work with. I have used it
in several projects with no complains at all.
Now, Hibernate is very configurable and extendible so, I am sure there
HAS to be a way to correctly serialize a persistent collection into
Hessian avoiding performance impact. Check Hibernate's forums for more
information.
I've read very good comments on iBATIS, but can't confirm them.
