As usual, it all depends on your requirements.
You may find that SOAP suffices, or not. You may find that Hessian does
and enjoy it's natural RPC, service-oriented style.
You may even find that neither will do, and nor will CORBA, though faster
that both, and have to build a specialised protocol.

I'd definitely redo them, and if CORBA is to be used, I'd definitely not
used the JRE Orb.
