--prefix option in configure doesn't seem to work

quick question
I'm trying to use configure with --prefix=/some/other/directory
option when building resin. basially I've got /usr/local/resin/ as the top
level directory under which I've got all the resin executables. Under the
/usr/local/src tree I've got my resin source snapshots and that's where I
compile any new code. While I can easily copy any new code into the
/usr/local/resin directory structure, just thought I'd like to set up the
--prefix and do a make install

Anyway, --prefix doesn't seem to work
