Our experiences have been quite the opposite. My team started had been
attempting to use IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer (the commercial
project built off Eclipse) and found it terribly complicated and a resource
hog. I do have to say though it did a fantastic job of integrating with
CVS.

We've since switched over to JEdit. It's lightweight and easy to configure
(one initial run through the options menu will get you all setup). JEdit
has a number of plugins and has a really nice plugin manager that downloads
the list of plugins for easy selection and installation (ala an apt-get).
Some of the plugins are extremely useful even if though many are still not
quite mature. JEdit is definitely worth taking a look.
