my advice: forget about the security-constraints for now, and just
worry about the direct login. you've probably got some simple thing
wrong that's causing everything to malfunction.

what's the target of the login form? is it 'j_security_check'? what
about the username and password fields? do they have the correct
names?

try starting with the example at

  http://www.caucho.com/resin/ref/security.xtp

changing only the name of the authenticator class.

you could also try enabling more verbose logging in resin.
